About me

Thank you very much for taking the time to read my profile. As a licensed psychologist, author, and business person in New York City, I provide a wide spectrum of therapy, consultation, and personal and career coaching to individuals. Overarchingly, we strive to develop a plan for their goal achievement and aim to maximize their potential — both personally and professionally. Some of the focus areas of my work with adult men and women include: Transitioning from one job or career to another Transitioning from being a stay-at-home parent back into the work place Striving to feel like their “old selves” and finding new solutions and alternatives to maximize their present strengths Preparing for an important interview or audition Sorting through relationship hurdles and milestones Restoring alignment in approaching day to day (and broader goals) with an optimistic and realistic approach. In our work in therapy, we aim to: 1) conceptualize the “big picture,” 2) break the broad view into smaller more manageable parts, 3) identify strengths and helpful behaviors and methods, as well as to 4) examine any circumstances – personal or professional – that may be interfering with goal achievement. By assessing personal history and strengths, clients are better equipped to create a firm foundation from which they may develop both short term and life long action plans. The emphasis of my clinical work is in the use of cognitive behavioral and solution focused psychology. Our approach is collaborative, practical, and grounded in common sense. Readings to Support Our Work: Sometimes it’s easy to feel out of alignment with your basic self. One of my books has a range of readings which focus on re-aligning your actions to who you really are. Therapy is a tool to help you ultimately be your own therapist by fully embracing your autonomy and your authentic self. You do indeed come into therapy with everything that you need. And all we strive to do is ensure that you are being you! It sounds so simple, yet it can indeed be harder than we’d think. Be Your Foundation: Be You. A Psychologist’s Notes to Clients is a compilation of readings written for my clients, colleagues, and various organizations over the recent years. A past relationship on your mind? Another resource that we may review is a short book entitled Past Relationship – Present You: Starting Afresh with Fruits from the Old Tree. This is a quick read written for those who have a past relationship almost in their rear view mirror. It identifies the key principles that predict positive human interactions as well as the simplest ways to demonstrate those elements as well as the pitfalls that may unnecessarily lead to conflict. Entering Retirement? Or an adult child of older parents? One area of my research led to consulting with older adults as they prepare for and live in their retirement years. This research helped us to identify and explore what is influential to their happiness and well being. Living in Retirement and Helping Your Parents Enjoy Retirement is a resource that we may use in our work to help navigate the transitioning path of both seniors and adult children of older parents. And some great news….. *age* is not a predictor of psychological well being in our older years! One of the vital elements of our work together is to gain understanding as to how you view yourself, your world, and those who are in your life. Viewing the world through your eyes and better understanding what matters the most to you will help us to: 1) identify what’s helpful to you as well as 2) what could be creating some dissonance or discomfort. Finding your own sense of consistency and reliability will help you experience a more grounded anchor point and project a feeling of safety and acceptance within yourself and in response to others. Throughout our work, we will aim to focus on perpetuating a healthful, balanced approach to optimistic living.
