About me

My Name is Dishema S. Shuler, and I am a License Clinical Social Worker holding over 15 years of experience. I specialize in Trauma Focused Cognitive Behavior Therapy. I have extensive experience in the clinical field, and I love what I do. I offer counseling to individuals and children and families who are experiencing difficulties such as blended family issues, school difficulties, parent-child conflict, depression, anxiety and trauma related issues. Here, I use a strength-based and family-centered approach to help children and families learn new strategies to address challenges, break ineffective patterns, evaluate difficult decisions, and overcome obstacles to lead a more fulfilling life. During therapy, I use a variety of treatment modalities affiliated with trauma, anxiety, depression, anger management, behavior management, parental/ family support, developmental guidance, and much more using Evidence Based Practices. Treatment modalities include, Cognitive behavioral Therapy, Play Therapy, Trauma Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Structured family Therapy, and much more. I have a diverse working background, which helps me educate and advocate influentially for the families that I serve. I advocate for children and their parents and play an active part with IEP’s and parenting support. Aside from my Professional development, I speak on clinical panels with a team of Medical Professionals regarding the importance of maintaining mental health and physical health. What I feel is unique about me, is that I am authentic and very relatable to a diverse population. I truly believe in the teaching that “You cannot teach what you do not know, and you cannot lead where you don’t go”. Healing has its levels and it’s an ongoing journey, but together, we can achieve our self-care goals.
