About me

My name is Debra A McFarland I am a license mental health clinician in the state of South Carolina, and working towards my North Carolina licensure. I have a BS in Sociology from Francis Marion University, and my MA from Webster University. I have been counseling for nine years. I received my provisional license in 2012 and fully licensed in 2013. I have worked with different demographics during my career from Adults to children along with their family’s. I have provided intensive services with children as well as the severely mentally ill adults with varying diagnosis. My approach to counseling involves helping you to identify strengths within yourself and develop self-awareness. My therapeutic approach is eclectic typically blending “Cognitive Therapy” developed by Aaron Beck, and “Reality Therapy” developed by William Glasser. I also may use some expressive arts techniques such as writing, music, or art during our sessions. These therapies are well established, researched, and respected within the profession. I encouraged my clients to become knowledgeable about goals, methods, and effectiveness. Helping others learn to manage and navigate through life’s ever changing dynamics is my passion. I look forward to working with you.
