Barbara Johnson

I am a licensed professional counselor with close to thirty years of experience. I have counseled clients in a wide variety of settings including inpatient and outpatient mental health and substance abuse treatment facilities, as well as my own private practice. Some of the concerns of clients have been depression, anxiety, stress, substance abuse, grief, anger, relationship issues, separation, and divorce. I would describe my approach as empathetic, encouraging, supportive, goal oriented, and centered on the client’s needs. Although I have completed much training and have experience in many therapy methods during my career, I would describe myself mostly utilizing Client Centered Therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Existential Therapy, Mindfulness Therapy, and Motivational Interviewing. I love helping clients go from struggling with their issues to gaining more satisfaction and meaning in their lives and feeling more secure in their capabilities for dealing with their life challenges. I have worked with many people who state it is their first time in counseling. Frequently they remark by the end of the session that I helped them feel very comfortable in delving into their concerns and they were pleased they chose to contact me.
