Named in honor of long-time State Representative Vernal G. Riffe, Jr., the Vern Riffe School has been providing educational services to children with developmental disabilities in Scioto County since 1953. After completing the assessment process with their local school district and an eligibility assessment with SCBDD Intake, students ages 5 to 21 may be enrolled at Vern Riffe School. Each classroom offers a personalized educational experience, with up to 8 students in each class instructed by a teacher and an aide. Our Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) are designed with parent/guardian participation to meet the needs of each student, supplemented by nursing services, service coordination, and therapies (speech, occupational, and physical).
