I am a licensed marriage and family therapist (LMFT) in North Carolina with over 30 years of experience working with individuals, couples and families presenting with a wide range of concerns including relationship difficulties, parenting problems, depression, anxiety, and adjustment problems. For the last 12 years before moving to North Carolina in 2019 I worked primarily with active duty or retired military members, their spouses, significant others or family members through the Department of the Navy’s Fleet and Family Support program. Military families experience problems arising from frequent moves, extended family separations due to deployments or other assignments, and the anxiety and fear family members feel when the service member is in a dangerous situation or when regular communication is not possible. In addition I assisted clients who had experienced domestic violence or childhood abuse or neglect. I also have extensive experience working with parents to improve communication with their children, learn and apply more effective discipline techniques, and develop helpful behavior management practices. I am a certified clinical trauma professional and also am certified as a clinical telemental health provider. My approach to therapy is individualized and focused on the unique strengths and challenges of each client. My therapeutic style is engaging and collaborative exploring with each client the strengths he or she already has to find solutions. I draw on tools and perspectives from several approaches including Brief Solution Focused Therapy, Family Systems Therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, and Dialectical Behavior Therapy.
