About me

Hello! My name is Julie Newman and I am a Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor in the state of Maryland and a Licensed Mental Health Counselor in the state of New York. I graduated from Loyola University Maryland in 2016 with a Master of Science degree in clinical psychology. I have 4+ years experience treating mood, anxiety, behavioral, trauma and adjustment disorders in outpatient and school settings. I want to commend you for your bravery in seeking help. Many of us tend to deny or repress our unpleasant emotions and thoughts. Your willingness to connect is a huge sign of strength. Prioritizing yourself and your mental health treatment are huge predictive factors that you will achieve your therapeutic goals. My therapeutic style is cognitive behavioral and person-centered oriented. I plan to focus on your mental health more so than mental illness. I plan to empower you to manage your symptoms, and also assist you to gain insight on which factors could be positively or negatively affecting your mental health. I like to explore areas such as the presence of positive emotions, community engagement, interpersonal relationships, sense of meaning/purpose, and accomplishments and assess how we can collaborate to create space for these factors in your life. Focusing on achieving and maintaining mental wellness allows me to provide you with more preventative care, while helping you achieve your treatment goals and improve your autonomy and health outside of session. I want us to work together to uncover your strengths, interests, and skills. My hope is that our discussions and time together will result in reaching your own insight and solutions to your presenting concerns. I look forward to connecting more!
