I am an LPC (Licensed Professional Counselor). I have been seeing clients a little over 4 years. My intial goal in a session is to develop the counselor client relationship. The most effective way I to do this in my experience is too just start up a conversation. Many clients tell me, my sessions are like we are just hanging out having a beer together. As we are having our discussion I’m listening to identify areas where I can help. Thinking distortions are what I’m looking for. I learned in past careers people will provide useful information not even realizing it. During this time I also look for places where a client presents common problems that many people. This is where I let them know they are not alone with these issues.s My favorite issue to address is anxiety. While working in a psych hospital I was able to identify that anxiety is the most common issue clients will easily open up about. General anxiey issues can start to be managed easily with some fairly simple techniques. These same techniques can also be used to help lessen the effexrs of more severe types of anxiety. While anxiety is my favorie to work with I have had success working with clients with erectile dysfunction, sexual anxiety, female intimacy issues, deperssion, paranoia and OCD in my privae practise. While working in the psych hosptal i worked with suicidal ideation, suicide attempt, severe depression, psychosis, anxiety and a wide range of geriatric problems.
