About me

Welcome to Better Help., I am a licensed professional counselor in the state of Texas with twelve years’ experience working in hospital and private practice settings. I wanted to become a counselor ever since I read utopian literature as a teenager. I actually went to college to study philosophy and counseling. I see counseling as philosophy updated and made practical as a response to suffering. I am a psychodynamically-focused and strength-based therapist. I like to build a therapeutic alliance by challenging misunderstandings about mental illness. Understanding them as the check engine lights of feeling disconnected from oneself can be a helpful perspective. In many cases, simply being heard and having a willingness to develop a new vocabulary with another person to talk about challenges can be empowering in and of itself.
