My name is Angela Carlson and I am a Licensed Mental Health Counselor (LMHC) in Massachusetts with 4 years of professional work experience. I received my Master’s from Lesley University in Clinical and Mental Health Counseling with a specialization in expressive arts therapy. I have worked in both inpatient and outpatient settings doing case management, crisis intervention, psychiatric day treatment, and therapy for individuals, groups, and families. I am experienced in providing services to people struggling with depression, anxiety, bipolar disorder, ADHD, substance abuse and addiction, dual-diagnoses, trauma and stressor related disorders, obsessive compulsive traits, borderline personality traits, eating disorders, and other mental health symptoms. I use a person-centered, holistic-integrative approach to psychotherapy and practice elements of various treatment styles, including Motivational Interviewing (MI), Expressive Arts Therapy, Mindfulness, Solution-focused therapy, Jungian Psychotherapy, Dialectical-Behavioral Therapy (DBT), Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) and other skills-based methods. I place emphasis on providing treatment that is trauma-informed, culturally competent and LGBTQIA+ affirming. I am a strong advocate for antiracist systemic change and destigmatizing mental illness. I believe in fostering therapeutic relationships that are empathic, nonjudgmental, and attuned to the needs of the client in the present moment. I do my best to honor the courage and resiliency it takes for people to show up for themselves and aim to support them embrace suffering bravely in search of their truth.
