About me

My name is Amanda Kazee and I am a practicing clinical social worker and addiction specialist. I live in Wilmington, NC and I have been practicing some form of therapy since 2011. My first job was in an outpatient clinic that catered to substance use disorders and I fell in live with the career and the people almost immediately. My purpose is personal, as I come from a family with addiction and untreated mental health and I became fascinated with the why and the who and the how to make it better. I attended University of North Carolina at Pembroke for my Bachelor’s and Masters in Social Work and practiced in Pinehurst, NC until I made my way back to my hometown of Wilmington in 2016. I have been at a community mental health agency for six years. I have a special interest in anxiety, domestic violence related trauma, finding self-love and confidence, addiction, and stress management. My therapy style is warm and interactive with a focus on giving clients the space they need to find their own strengths. I like clients to feel comfortable and open both with me and within the therapeutic process, as I feel that is when the best work can be done. My most utilized approach is meshing a strengths based perspective with cognitive-behavioral, motivational interviewing, and dialectical-behavioral therapy. These will be catered to specific needs and treatment planning. It takes a lot of courage to seek a more functional and fulfilling life. If you are ready and willing, I am here to support you and help you navigate towards a more empowering life. I look forward to working with you!
